November 4, 2008 in Vietnam
It may look like a prison jumpsuit, but anyone who’s been here will instantly recognize my ensemble as that of an authentic Saigon street cleaner. Just don’t ask what I …

So I was looking at the logs for this site yesterday and I saw that somebody landed here via the search phrase “the nan goldin effect.” I couldn’t remember ever having written something about the …

I’m not just a writer–I was also this month’s cover model. Why the glasses? I don’t know. I get paid to look good, not ask questions. Finally have uploaded some …
August 29, 2008 in Saigon, Vietnam, Music
It’s been a few months since I wrote, and I’m sure the question on everyone’s mind has been: “But what is Vietnam’s death metal scene like?” Wonder no more! Here’s a video from Saigon’s own …

I can’t see this video, because here in the good old Land of Smiles, youtube is still being blocked…

You’ll just have to describe it in minute detail instead.

I wonder if the Burmyanmar gubmint folks know that you can circumvent their silly little firewalls with proxies.

Try that, and spread the word to the townsfolk.

I’m actually back in Bangkok–they’re still sore about that youtube clip that made fun of the king a few months ago. Lots of Internet places in Myanmurma do use proxies (as the gov’t blocks little sites like gmail & yahoo mail.)
I love M.I.A.! Lauren, didn’t you, Yuka, and I all have separate plans to see her in Central Park a few summers ago but then we all flaked? SO glad to hear that she’s still hot.
PS They’re reading off verdicts against ousted PM Thaksin & his political party right now on TV & I can hear people cheering in the restaurant next door. There are 10,000 extra police out on the streets in Bangkok in anticipation of riots.

Oh, so you weren’t the person who said she wasn’t hot, and then I was like, “Um, yes she IS,” and then you were like, “NO SHE AIN’T!” Because otherwise I would not have put that “still” in, as in, “Maybe you don’t think she’s hot but I still do.”
At least Thaksin will always have Manchester football. Or not. I don’t know if he bought that shit. What’s football, anyway.

I don’t remember that exchange at all. Plus, I believe I have never used the word “ain’t.” However, I have also learned to trust your memory more than my own, so now I am wracked with internal conflict. This is how schizophrenic personality disorders get started. Thanks a lot.

Well, it probably wasn’t you because the person in question didn’t like her. And now I remember that we totally did plan to see her at Central Park, and why would you do that if you didn’t like her? So a point goes to your memory over mine.
