No dolphins were seen or harmed (nor were any classics of the French nouvelle vague). I went fishing with a local fisherman instead of dolphin hunting, but we caught nothing. I joked that fishing with a farang was bad luck, and the fisherman seemed to completely agree with me. I did learn that you need very good balance to fish Lao-style...you must stand up in a wooden canoe and hurl a weighted net, starting from a coiled position and releasing with a graceful, discus-throwing motion. I was not a success at this. I could do the coiled-up part okay, but that was about it. Hey, at least I got a nice sunburn on my face, neck, and shoulders!
