Photos added to the Kanchanaburi and Sangkhlaburi sets. Will be heading out on a train to Chiang Mai in a couple of hours and will post again from there; many photos and tales from the road to come.

Loving the photos, budski. Keep ‘em coming. I’m hoping you’re shooting at the highest resolution, ’cause there’s a few print-worthy shots in there.

Thanx, broze…I’ve been shooting at the full 8 megapixels but only uploading to flickr at like 1280 x 1024 to save time. The big files are on my hard drive; and hm, now that I think of it I should probably be backing them up. I will have to burn some DVDs. If anyone wants to print anything, let me know and I can email you the full-size file.

Sweet pix, Tom. That old guy must have laughed so hard when you smacked that kid in the face with the cream pie.
On a sidenote, I’m applying for English teaching jobs in Corea and Japan. I’ll let you know when/if I’m headed in your general direction.

How old is that Mon temple?

The Mon Temple (Wat Wang Wiwekaram) is between 300 and 400 years old, according to a guidebook, but the chedi is a replica of a much older Indian one. The Mon are said to have been the first to bring Theravada Buddhism (the dominant type in continental Southeast Asia) to the region. This temple was also the diocese of highly revered Abbot who died recently at age 95 and whose body is lying in state somewhere in the complex, but I didn’t get a chance to see it, and am not really sure I wanted to.
